Dear Students,
I hope you enjoyed the 100% pizza party and the Kid Biz Reward Ice Cream Party today. Tomorrow will be your last day in fifth grade. Students who shared their organizational binders on time will be having their malassadas at first recess.

Dear Students,
You did an outstanding job on your Aloha Assembly performance. We are very proud of all of your hard work and effort. Today, please give your parents the borrowed performance clothing that needs to washed. The clothing will be due on Thursday.

If you are donating or sewing a lei for memorial day, bring it to school in the morning and drop it off at the office. Voting for next year's student council will be conducted in the computer room before school and during first recess. Fifth graders are allowed to vote this year.

Homework Assignments

Dear Students,
Over the weekend, please share your Organizational binder with a parent. Have your parent complete the top part of the white comment form and you will be completing the bottom part of the form. Also, have your reading record/homework folder signed for the last time (week #9).

On Monday, your Aloha Assembly performance for the school will be at 1:00 p.m. We will be rehearsing in the morning. If you are in the "We Go Gogether" dance, please bring a colorful shirt to wear. Bring all of your performance clothing (including the white t-shirt) on Monday. Make sure it is washed, ironed and on a hanger.

Also, if you have any library books, bring them to school on Monday. Otherwise you will be receiving a bill.

a. Reading record: Record total pages read up to Thursday night since you returned all of your library books on Friday. Have a parent initial pages read and sign homework folder for week #9.

You don't have to bring back your Organizational binder to school on Monday since this is your last sharing. But please bring your Barebook back to school so I can attach your final writing grade. :)

Hurray! You finished the L-A-S-T Hawaii State Assessment! Thank you for giving 100% effort. Tomorrow we will celebrate when we go to the Ice Palace. Please wear covered shoes, warm clothing and bring a jacket. You can bring your own home lunch or bring $10.00 to purchase lunch there.

I was especially proud of the effort on today's Math Terra Nova. We have only 1 assessment left tomorrow -- the Reading Terra Nova. Do your very B-E-S-T!

We will have Aloha Assembly Dress rehearsal tomorrow morning from 8:15-11:00. Please bring a water bottle. Boys, if you received a white t-shirt from Mrs. Kaneshiro today, make sure you bring it to school tomorrow. You are borrowing it for the Aloha Assembly. You will need it tomorrow for the dress rehearsal.

Over the weekend, please read aloud one of your favorite stories or essays from your Bare Book to a parent. Kanoa and Kaua, read aloud a favorite part of the book you are reading to a parent. Have your parent complete the bottom of page 41.

Practice reading aloud that same story or essay for next week's Bare Book story hour. Also, for Social Studies, practice your speaking parts. c. Writing: 1) Go to C5's blog page. Click on "Brainpop." 2) Log onto Brainpop using the log in name and password listed on your project sheet. 3) Under the "search" button, type in "Gas and Oil." Take notes as you watch the video. Next, type in "Fossil Fuels." Take notes as you watch video. 4) You can look at other videos related to the topic such as "Global Warming" or "Energy Technology," etc. *Press "Log Out" button when finished.

5) You can also re-read "Give Up Oil? Not so Fast" on Kid Biz. Write down additional information from this news article that you can use in your essay. If you run out of room on worksheet, you can attach folder paper.

Homework Assignments

Dear Students,
I just returned from Japan this morning. It was Mr. Dela Cruz's parents 50th anniversary so the entire family and grandchildren went on this trip. When we arrived in Osaka last Friday, we learned about the earthquake and saw images of the Tsunami. We toured different parts of Japan and our tour ended in Tokyo. In Tokyo we experienced several aftershocks and then a 6.2 earthquake at the airport.

When we return from Spring recess we will be learning more about the Japan earthquake and Tsunami. We learning how the earthquake created the Tsunami wave and will be using measurement to study the size of the Tsunami waves. People in Tokyo working shorter work shifts and are conserving electricity. Please keep the people of Japan in your prayers.

I hope you had a great Spring recess and will be ready to return to school on Monday. I look forward to seeing you soon. I hope you finished all of your assignments. :)
