Dear Students,
I was very p-r-o-u-d of the effort you put into your Math Hawaii State Assessment today. Everyone improved and showed progress since the last online test! The main thing is that you tried your best. Our next test will be in Reading on Thursday.

Tonight, please work on designing your Bare Book cover. Also, write out your dedication message on the project page. These are your assignments:

I. Language Arts
a. Reading record/homework folder: read for 30 minutes daily and record pages read. Tomorrow, I will be taking you to the library so you can borrow book from the Realistic Fiction genre.

b. Kid Biz: read 4 news articles and complete 5 steps. Entries #9-12 due next week Monday.

c. Writing: 1) create design for your Bare Book cover. It should have the title of your book, colorful pictures and the following information near the bottom of the book: "By" and your first and last name, Hokulani Elementary School, Grade 5, Room C5 and School Year 2010-2011.

2) For the dedication page, write the name(s) of the people you are dedicating your book to and the reasons why on the project sheet. Be specific when you write the reasons.

Things that you did (projects) or memorable excursions you went on (including Big Island, Japan -- the Cultural Exchange and East Coast trips!). You can share about the wonderful friends you have made and the people you have met principal, teachers, counselor, etc. You can also give advice to the 4th graders on how to succeed in 5th grade. Mrs. DC,
For the corrections, how many did you need to get wrong to do it? I had about 2 wrong...do i still need to do corrections? Also i wasn't sure of this so i didn't bring home my comp book. So if we do need to do it, can I do the questions that i think i got wrong? or is it a pink slip?

Dear Kenneth,
Yes, it should relate to the stories you have written. This is your collection. Try to make it a "catchy" title.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Dela Cruz :)

Hi Kaimana,
Work on the Math Review problems that you did not finish and corrections to those problems (that was corrected).

For my math group, you will turn in the homework and math corrections on Thursday (but you can start on doing some of the problems tonight if you have time).

Sincerely,
Mrs. Dela Cruz

Hi Aya!
Yes, you can draw a journal and write your title on that. Be creative! You can also write the beginning of a story or show pictures of some of the stories you have written.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Dela Cruz :)

Dear ?
Since you don't have your composition book, please make the corrections tomorrow morning. I want to make sure everyone understands the concepts covered in the math review.

Sincerely,
Mrs. D.C. :)

Hi Kenneth!
No, you do not have to color the draft design. I want you to draw it out so you have an idea of what to put on the cover. Tomorrow, I will be giving you your bare book. You will be coloring that cover! :)

Sincerely,
Mrs. Dela Cruz

Hi Emele!
You need to write the equation. Remember the formula for triangle -- 1/2 x (b x h). So write down the base and height and multiply it by 1/2. Show all work. Same for #2.

Sincerely,
Mrs. D.C.
