Homework Assignments

Dear Students,
It was exciting to see the first group of explorer's presentations today. I was especially proud of the time and effort you put into creating the slideshow and skit. If you are presenting tomorrow, please rehearse your speaking parts tonight.

Just a reminder that tomorrow is the deadline to submit your field trip form and money. Please finish pages 37-39 (top of pg. 39) in your Literature Sharing folder. Also, study for tomorrow's Japanese Quiz #4. These are your assignments:

I. Language Arts
a. Reading record: read for 30 minutes and record pages read.

b. Kid Biz: read 4 news articles and complete 5 steps. Record entries #1-4 in Kid Biz sheet for Second Quarter. Entries will be due on Tuesday October 12th.

c. Writing: 1) make final revisions to Tuesday story. Typed story due Friday. 2) begin research on Gubernatorial candidate Thomas Pollard. Answer only work experience and schooling questions. Use the information below and complete comparison table (his website is not working properly).

Background/Education: Dr. Thomas Pollard grew up in the US and Okinawa. His father was involved in the Air Force. Dr. Pollard entered active duty in 1976 as a laboratory technician. He was able to get his undergraduate degree at the University of Oklahoma then became a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force.

He attended medical school at Western University in California. He was assigned various Medical Director positions and Team Chief of a Critical Care Air Transport Team.

Work Experience: He moved back to Hawaii in 2001 with a private practice at Pali Momi and Castle Hospital. Dr. Pollard served in the Reserves at Anderson AFB in Guam in 2005-8, and is currently in the Air Force Reserves at Hickam AFB.

Political Party: He is running for Governor of Hawaii in the 2010 election as an Independent candidate.

d. Reading: complete Reading Chapter 11 questions.

II. Math
a. Mrs. D.C. 1) make corrections to WB pg. 57. 2) complete TB pg. 234 #52-54 (all) and WB pg. 59 #1-8 (all). Show all work on folder paper.

b. Mrs. K: 1) complete WB pg. 12 (odds)

III. Other
a. Japanese: study for tomorrow's Quiz #4 on school subjects handout #1-5 (meaning only).

b. DARE: complete pg. 22 Peer Pressure and Pg. 30 Planner Notes #6. Due Friday.

Thank you for your message. Use the information I provided on my blog page. Only answer education and work experience. We will find out more about his viewpoint on specific issues when the candidates have a debate.

Yes, please label your folder paper with the workbook page number and the problems assigned. That way, when you make corrections, it is easy to see what page it is for. :)

Look at today's homework blog page under writing. I put the information I could find about him. Just answer the questions on education (schooling) and work experience. We will learn more about his viewpoints on the major issues when the candidates have a debate.
