On Sunday night, I will not be able to answer your blog questions. I have a dinner to attend. I will try to check the blog in the afternoon. Make sure you have read aloud favorite parts of your Realistic fiction book to a parent. And have a parent complete the bottom of page 33.

c. Literature Sharing: read aloud favorite part of your realistic fiction book to a parent. Have parent complete bottom of pg. 33. Due Monday.
d. Writing: begin revising your Taxation essay. This is in your test folder. Create a colored illustration showing the 2 main reasons colonists were upset with the colonial tax system. Due next week Friday. (Please start early. We have many May Day practices next week and will have limited time in class to work on this assignment)

a. Mrs. D.C. 1) make corrections to Surface Area and Volume test. Get test signed. 2) complete WB pg. 104 #1-5 and WB pg. 105 #3-8. For #3-8, just label the angle (obtuse, acute or right). On Monday, I will show you how to measure the angles with a protractor.

a. Reading record/homework folder: read for 30 minutes daily and record pages read. The genre this month is Realistic Fiction.
b. Kid Biz: read 4 news articles and complete 5 steps. Entries #9-12 due next week Monday.
c. Writing: 1) Type your dedication page. Type the name(s) of the people you are dedicating your book to and the reasons why. Be specific when you share your reasons. 2) Color the cover page of your Bare Book. 3) Find a photograph or color a picture of the person(s) you are dedicating book to. These items are due this Friday.
II. Math
a. Mrs. D.C.: 1) Make corrections to TB pg. 566 #6-22 (evens) 2) complete WB pg. 139 #1-11 (all) and WB pg. 140 #1-9 (all). Due Thursday.
b. Mrs. K: 1) complete TB pg. 492 (all). Due Thursday.
c. Math Review: Make corrections to TB pg. 606.
d. XtraMath: complete 1 assessment everyday.
III. Other
a. Japanese: 1) complete questions on back side of worksheet 2: School timetable at an Elementary School in Japan. 2) Study for next week Wednesday’s quiz on January-June (6 words).
b. Social Studies: complete last event -- Intolerable Acts. Review and make sure all information is completed (w/quality) and all panels colored neatly. Due tomorrow.
c. Year book message: type out your message for the year book page. You may share your favorite memories of Hokulani. Things that you enjoyed doing (ex. projects) or memorable excursions you went on (including Big Island, Japan -- the Cultural Exchange and East Coast trips). You can share about the wonderful friends you have made and the people who have guided you such as our principal, teachers, counselor, etc. You can also give advice to the 4th graders on how to succeed in 5th grade. Type and save it on your USB drive. Due next week Tuesday.
d. American Red Cross (Japan Relief): if possible, bring in coins for fundraising drive. :)

Homework Assignments

I was very p-r-o-u-d of the effort you put into your Math Hawaii State Assessment today. Everyone improved and showed progress since the last online test! The main thing is that you tried your best. Our next test will be in Reading on Thursday.
Tonight, please work on designing your Bare Book cover. Also, write out your dedication message on the project page. These are your assignments:
I. Language Arts

c. Writing: 1) create design for your Bare Book cover. It should have the title of your book, colorful pictures and the following information near the bottom of the book: "By" and your first and last name, Hokulani Elementary School, Grade 5, Room C5 and School Year 2010-2011.
2) For the dedication page, write the name(s) of the people you are dedicating your book to and the reasons why on the project sheet. Be specific when you write the reasons.
*Colored cover, typed dedication page and photograph or colored picture of the person(s) you are dedicating book to are due this Friday.

Thank you for working hard on your cause and effect essays. I enjoyed reading your essays and was pleased with the revisions you made. Tomorrow, you will be taking the Hawaii State Assessment in Math. Tonight, please sleep early and get a good night's rest. Tomorrow morning, eat a light breakfast.
