Homework Assignments

Dear Students,
I hope you had a productive day. I am looking forward to seeing your completed Hand Art drawings. We will be putting together your S-E-E and Hand Art posters next week. We will also begin rehearsing for our upcoming Winter Concert. :) Over the weekend, begin writing your idea web for your DARE essay. The first draft of your DARE essay is due this Thursday. These are your assignments for this weekend.

I. Language Arts
a. Read 30 minutes and write pages down. Have parents initial total pages read for week #7 and sign homework page.
b. Kid Biz: if you did not finish reading and completing today's news article, finish it over the weekend. Record your scores on your Kid Biz paper and on our class poster on Monday.

II. Math
a. Mrs. Dela Cruz: textbook page 29 #1-19 (odds).
b. Mrs. K.S. (please ask homework buddy)

III. Other
a. DARE: brainstorm and write down all of the important things you learned from the DARE program on a "idea web." Then, put a star next to the three most important topics you learned. Under the 3 topics, write down the information you learned and explain how you can use this information in the future.
b. Think of a creative lead. You can begin your essay with a personal testimony (story of person facing a problem), startling facts, dialogue (person speaking), etc.
c. Conclusion: summarize main points and state your DARE pledge to stay drug free.
d. Essay will be 5 paragraphs -- lead, 3 middle paragraph on three important things you learned from the DARE program and conclusion.

Dear Vincent,
For the DARE essay, you need to write your idea web on three important things you learned and explain how you can use what you learned from DARE program. Examples of things you learned are: Making wise decisions using the DARE decision making model, how to handle peer pressure, dangers of tobacco, alcohol, marjiuana, etc. Then, under the three things you learned, write down facts and information you learned and how you can use the information to solve problems regarding peer pressure, making wise decision, staying drug free, etc.
If you are writing on the dangers of alcohol, tobacco or marijuana, do research using the Internet on how these problems are affecting Hawaii students. You look at the Honolulu Advertiser for any recent articles.
Think of a creative lead relating to your essay. For the conclusion, you will be summarizing the main points and writing your DARE pledge to stay drug free.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Dela Cruz :)

Hi Tyler!
Your first draft of the DARE essay is due this Thursday. Work on your idea web tonight.
For the idea web, brainstorm on all of the important things that you learned from the DARE program. Then, put a star next to the 3 that are the most important topics. Under these 3 topics, write down information that you learned and share how you can use this information to help you make wise decisions in the future.
I will be passing out the criteria and will answer all of your questions tomorrow. :)
This essay will count as your Health and Writing grade.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Dela Cruz :)
