Homework Assignments

Dear Students,
Happy H-a-l-l-w-e-e-n! Congratulations to the University of Hawaii's football team and the San Francisco Giants. The Giants are 1 game away from becoming the World Series Champions in baseball!

Over the weekend, please read aloud favorite parts of your mystery book to a parent. Please study for you Wordly Wise #10 exam. Have a safe and fun time trick-or-treating! These are your assignments:

I. Language Arts
*a. Reading record: read 30 minutes and record pages read. Have a parent initial pages read and sign homework folder for week #3.

*b. Kid Biz: read 2 news articles and complete 5 steps. Record entries #9 & #10 on Kid Biz sheet. Due Monday.

*c. Literature Sharing: read aloud favorite part of your mystery book to a parent. Have your parent complete bottom of pg. 22. Due Monday.

d. Wordly Wise: complete 10E #8-15 and write words 8-15 5x each. Make corrections on folder paper to 10E #1-7 and words. STUDY for Monday's test!

*e. Writing: type 2nd draft of persuasive essay. Due Monday.

II. Math
a. Mrs. D.C.'s group: no homework!

Dare Essay Report: on folder paper, write a paragraph each on these questions -- 1) What are your hopes, dreams, and aspirations for your future? 2) How will drugs affect your dreams? 3) What will I promise to myself? (Ex. staying drug free, saying "no" to drugs, etc.) 4) How will I be able to keep my promise?
Also, finish Lesson 8 and the rest of the DARE booklet. Due next week Friday.

a. Mrs. D.C.: complete pg. 350 #13, 18, 23, 31, and 32. Use fraction strips (if you did not finish problems in class, use the xeroxed fraction strip page) to help you solve the problem.

f. Writing: write 3rd middle paragraph and conclusion. Due tomorrow.

a. Mrs. D.C.: 1) complete TB pg. 347 #2-18 (evens). Write problem, solve and write answer in simplest form. 2) "Cover the Whole" -- Explain 5 ways you covered the fraction. First, draw and color the fraction pieces you used to cover the whole. Next, write the fractions you used in a number sentence. Ex. 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/8 + 1/8 = 1 whole. Then, add "like" fractions and write a number sentence. Ex. 3/4 + 2/8 = 1 whole. Due tomorrow.

Dear Students,
The students who had their conference today did a fantastic job sharing their work samples with their parents. I am looking forward to the rest of our parent teacher conferences. :)

For tomorrow's sprit day, please wear something silly. You can even wear your silly bands. We will be having P.E. with the U.H. athletes so wear covered shoes, comfortable clothing and a water bottle. If you are able to bring in bottled water for the athletes, please bring it to school tomorrow. These are your assignments:

a. Reading record: read 30 minutes and record pages read.

b. Kid Biz: read 2 news articles and complete 5 steps. Record entries 9 & 10 on Kid Biz sheet. Due next week Monday.

c. Wordly Wise: make corrections to 9E #1-15 in workbook and words written 5x each in composition book. Due tomorrow.

d. Literature Sharing: complete pages 20-22 (top of pg. 22) Due Wednesday.

e. Writing: in your writing composition book or on folder paper, complete planning outline on the 3 reasons and the supporting details you will use to support your reasons. Then, write the first 2 middle paragraphs on yellow project sheet. Use a transition to begin each paragraph. Due tomorrow.

II. Math
a. Mrs. D.C.: 1) finish writing game results and answer 2 questions (What happened at the end of the game? What strategies did you use?) for UnCover Version #2 Game. Color fraction strips (same color as actual strips) used in drawings. Due tomorrow.

b. Mrs. K: complete WB pg. 50 (evens) and study for retest exam (If you are taking it tomorrow). For the assignment, do not worry about basic fact or pattern. Just complete the problem.

b. Kid Biz: read 4 news articles and complete 5 steps. Record entries #1-4 on purple Kid Biz paper. Due Tuesday October 12th.

c. Literature Sharing: read aloud favorite part of Science fiction book and have a parent complete bottom of pg. 39. Due Tuesday October 12th.
