Winter Break Assignments

Dear Students,
Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year celebration with your family. :) Thank you for your Christmas gifts. I really appreciated your thoughtfulness.

You will return back to school next week. Remember to finish all of the following assignments, including your Kid Biz homework. I will be checking in all assignments on Tuesday. Get ready for an exciting and action-packed New Year. :)

I. Language Arts
a. Reading record: read 30 minutes daily and record pages read. You will have parents initial 3 weeks -- Week #10 from the 2nd Quarter Reading Record, and Week #1 and Week #2 on the 3rd Quarter Reading Record (green color). For the homework folder, have parents sign week #10 for 2nd Quarter.

b. Literature sharing: read aloud your favorite parts of the Myths and Legends book to your parent. Have your parent complete the bottom of page 28. Due Tuesday January 5th.

c. Kid Biz: read 4 news articles and record the first score. Record all results on your green Kid Biz paper. Due Tuesday January 5th. Take the Kid Biz challenge and enter their contest. Information is on the flyer is in your communication folder.

Students that need to complete their 4 news articles are: Waileia, Kayce, Ivy, Cody, Raymond, Brendan, Crystal, Charity, Chika, Kenny, Jade, Riley Parks, Talia, Shaylene, Sean, Corey, Tawnie, Ken, Riley Whitten, Katie and Kellen.

Homework Assignments

Dear Students,
Finally, tomorrow is the B-I-G day -- Winter Program and P-I-Z-Z-A Party! I know your parents are looking forward to your performance. Please wear either Jeans long pants or dark colored shorts.
Please have your parents sign your test folder tonight. Also, finish your Quadrirama Panel #2 and Christmas card for your parents. We will be wrapping your parents gifts tomorrow. These are your assignments:

I. Language Arts
a. Reading Record: read 30 minutes and record pages read.
b. Reading: finish Quadrirama Panel #2 (Due tomorrow).

a. Mrs. D.C.: on folder paper, make corrections to Division of Decimals test and record test in your test folder.

Homework Assignments

Dear Students,
On your Furlough Friday, work on your acrostic poems. Think about how these furloughs have been affecting you. Share your thoughts about this issue as you complete Steps #2 and #3 on your poem handout. :) These are your assignments for today:

I. Language Arts
a. Reading record: read Myth and Legends book for 30 minutes and record pages read. Have parents initial total pages and get week #9 signed. If you have an incomplete assignment, you will not have a star stamp. You need to have parents sign the folder. I will stamp your folder after the assignment is completed. :)

b. Wordly Wise 14E #1-15. Write words #1-15 5x each. Test on Monday.

c. Reading -- Making Inferences: a) finish "No Place Like Home" panel for scene #1 b) Complete Lesson #2 handout. Read the parts of the story that is boxed in. Write 5 inferences. Select the best inference and write it in an S-E-E statement. Draw a picture for the statement. (Due Monday)

d. Writing -- Furlough Friday poems. Complete steps #2 and #3. You will be writing out your "pro" and "con" poems. Begin drawing colored pictures for the poems. Due Monday.

e. Literature sharing: complete pages 26-28 (top of page 28). Due Monday. You will read aloud parts of one of your stories to your parents over the Winter recess.

II. Math
a. Mrs. D.C.: 1) Make corrections to page 407. 2) Solve 5 division of fractions problems that were written on the board. Show all work.

b. Mrs. K: workbook page 105 #3-8. Finish calculations for the circle graph.

b. Reading Retest on Explicit and Implied Information: if you received a DP or WB on Explicit and Implied test #2 The Present or test #3 The Lost colony, make correction on folder paper. Record tests in test folder, put corrections behind the test and get test folder signed.
c. Reading-Making Inferences: complete "No Place Like Home" worksheet including the S-E-E. Draw a colored picture showing clues used in the S-E-E response.

If you are participating in secret santa, please ask your parents how you can earn the money $7-$10 to purchase a gift. Find out what chores you can do around your home. Fall Recess Assignments

Dear Students,
Hurray! Fall Recess is finally here! Enjoy your time with your family and friends. These are your assignments during the break. I will be checking my blog only on the weekends during the break. You will be returning to school on Tuesday October 13th.

a. Reading record: read 30 minutes daily and record pages the read. On Sunday, total the amount of pages read for the week. In addition, add up all the weekly totals for the first quarter and write the grand total. Have parents sign pages read and homework folder for week #9.
Next week Monday, begin recording the pages read on the Second Quarter reading sheet (purple sheet). Total amount of pages read at the end of next week and have parents initial.

Finish typing your All About Me story. I will give you more time tomorrow. If you received a pink slip today, please complete the assignment and get your slip signed by a parent. These are your assignments today:

a. Reading Record: Read 30 minutes and record pages read.
b. Reading: complete the S-E-E problem for the Little Mole story.
c. Writing: type your All About Me story. Use the sample as a guide. Type your full name, student number and due date (Wednesday August 19th) in the upper right hand corner.

1) Work out the problem in your chart (in your composition book) up to 9 days after the 16th day.

Dear Students,
I can't wait to hear your completed All About Me stories. Tonight, please use the criteria sheet as a checklist and self-assess your story. You will not be able to complete all sections of the criteria but make sure your story has all of the necessary parts -- interesting lead, descriptive details about your family, hobbies and future goals. Did you include transitions? Make any necessary revisions.

Tomorrow, a classmate will be giving you feedback on your story. The feedback you receive will help you improve your writing. :) These are your assignments for today:

a. Reading record: read 30 minutes and record pages read.

b. Wordly Wise: review and study for tomorrow's spelling and vocabulary exam.

Write the first 3 paragraphs on the project sheet -- the lead (that you selected), share your family background and hobbies. Remember to use descriptive details. These are your assignments for tonight:

a. Reading record: Read 30 mintues and record pages read.
b. Wordly Wise 1E #8-15. Write words 8-15 5x each. Study for tomorrow's practice spelling exam. I will be telling you the definition of the word and you will need to spell the word correctly.
*Friday is your actual spelling and vocabulary exam. For the vocabulary exam, you will need to know the definitions of the words.
c. Writing -- All About Me: write the first 3 paragraphs in your first draft.

II. Math
a. Anno's Magic Seeds -- complete the following 3 problems in your math composition book:
Jack and Alice both ate 1 baked seed. They buried the rest of the seeds in the ground.
1. In the 6th year, how many seeds grew that year?

I am really glad to see more students using our homework blog. :) Tomorrow, you will be sharing your 2 leads with a classmate for your All About Me story. He or she will be giving you feedback on which lead is more effective. These are your assignments for today:

I. Language Arts
a. Read 30 minutes and record pages read. Make sure you wrote the title of the book you are reading.

b. Wordly Wise: complete 1E problems #1-7. In your Wordly Wise composition book, write words #1-7 (first seven words on page 1) five times each. Start studying for Friday's spelling and vocabulary exam.

c. Journal: write about the study space you selected. Explain your reasons why this is the best place for you to study.

d. Writing -- All About ME: write 2 different leads (beginning for your story). Finish the pre-writing section. Include specific details about each section. Example: hobbies -- baseball. Share how long you have played the sport. What position you play, etc.

As of 8:00 a.m., Tropical storm Felicia was 450 miles east of Honolulu and is travelling at a speed of 14 mph. Show your work with labels to figure out what day/time Felicia will arrive at Honolulu.
