Homework Assignments

Dear Students,
Happy Halloween! I hope you have a fun and enjoyable evening as you go trick or treating with your friends and family. If you plan on collecting money for UNICEF, please have your parents accompany you. You can turn in the boxes next week Monday. Have a fantastic weekend. These are today's assignments:
I. Language Arts
a. Reading Record: read 30 minutes daily and record total pages read. Have parents initial total pages read for Week #4 and sign homework page.
b. Literature Sharing: share favorite parts of mystery book with parents. Have parents complete the bottom of page 22. Due Monday!

II. Math
a. Mrs. Kaneshiro's group: complete double bar graph.
b. Mrs. Dela Cruz: no homework

III. Other
a. Communication folder due Monday.
b. Kids Voting: wear patriotic colors (red, white and blue) on Monday. You will be voting Monday morning and will also help the kindergarten students cast their votes.
c. Camp Erdman forms and money due Thursday November 6th.

Homework Assignments

Dear Students,
Hurray! Today was the last day of Science testing! I hope you had fun during our field day relays. Tomorrow, we will be celebrating Halloween. Don't forget to dress up. (You can bring change of clothes). These are today's assignments:

I. Language Arts
a. Read for 30 minutes and record pages read.
b. KidBiz: Read today's article and complete 5 steps: email, activity question, thought question, math and poll. Record the information on your yellow KidBiz worksheet. You will record results on our class poster tomorrow. (After this session, you should have completed reading 3 articles). :)

II. Social Studies
a. Read handout on the Southern Colonies. Write information on "The English Colonies" chart given earlier in the week. Use descriptive details. This is due tomorrow.

III. Other
a. Show parents your communication folder.
b. KidBiz election contest: if you would like to enter this contest, press the "Contests" link on the KidBiz website. It has all the directions. You will be writing a letter to one of the presidential candidates and share 2 issues. You need to email this letter by tomorrow. Grand prize is a MP3 player!

Homework Assignments

Dear Students,
Tomorrow, you will be taking the last session of the Science test. This part will require you to conduct an experiment. Please get a good night's rest and come to school on time. These are your assignments for today.

I. Language Arts
a. Read 30 minutes and write down pages read.
b. Kidbiz: read today's email. Complete 5 steps and record data on your yellow sheet. (email, activity question, thought question, math and poll). You will be writing down your first score you received for the activity question on our class poster. (After today, you should have completed 2 different stories on KidBiz this week) :)

II. Math
a. Mrs. Dela Cruz: 2/3 divided by 2/10 (draw picture, solve and explain each step).
b. Mrs. Kaneshiro: 5 problems.

III. Social Studies
a. Read Middle Colonies handout. Complete the middle section on yesterday's handout "The English Colonies" with information you learned about the Middle Colonies --landforms (topographic feature), climate (weather conditions), resources (something that a country has and can use), industries (the making of goods and services) and economy (what they make and trade).

IV. Other
a. Fire Safety Guide: the completed guide including the middle portion of book due tomorrow. Please have you and your parents sign the middle page.
b. Field Day activities tomorrow! Wear covered shoes.
c. Spirit Week: wear pajama's or sports related clothing tomorrow. :)

Dear Students,
Thank you for trying your very best on today's Science test. Tomorrow, you will take the second test session. Please get a good night's sleep and come to school on time. If possible, eat breakfast in the morning. These are your assignments for today.

I. Language Arts
a. Read 30 minutes and write pages down.
b. Writing: write a paragraph on an encounter you had with an animal (good or bad). Create a title and use descriptive words in your story. (Due tomorrow)
c. KidBiz: if you did not go online and finish the 5-steps for yesterday's article "Lost and Found", please finish it tonight -- email, activity question, thought question, math and poll. Record your score on the new yellow sheet I gave you. Put sheet in your reading folder. You will be writing your first score on our KidBiz poster.
II. Math
a. Mrs. Dela Cruz's Group: draw a picture and solve the following problems.
5 divided by 1/3
8 divided by 3/8
1/2 divided by 1/8
1 divided by 1/3

b. Mrs. Kaneshiro's group: problems assigned in class.

III. Other
a. Social Studies: read handout on New England colonies and the back of "The English Colonies" worksheet. Write down information you learned about the New England colonies on the worksheet -- landforms, climate, resources, industries and economy.
Tomorrow, you will be learning about the Middle Colonies and fill in information for that section on the table.
b. Fire Safety Guide: due Thursday. Have parent sign middle section of booklet.
c. Backward and Inside-Out day tomorrow! :)

Homework Assignments

Dear Students,
We began our first round of student-led conferences. I was proud of the students who shared their work samples with their parents. Students who had their conference today, please have you and your parent complete the white and blue forms. If you haven't had your conference, I look forward to hearing your progressfolio sharing during the upcoming weeks. :)

Just a reminder that tomorrow we will begin Science testing. Please get a good night sleep and come to school on time. Testing will take place in the MPB at 8:30 a.m. Please eat breakfast in the morning. These are your assignment for today:

I. Language Arts
a. Read a minimum of 30 minutes and write down the pages read.
b. KidBiz: complete 5-steps for today's news article: respond to email, complete activity, thought question, math activity and poll. Record information on your new (yellow) Kid Biz sheet and put in reading folder.
c. Writing: write a paragraph on an encounter (good or bad) with an animal. Create a descriptive title and use vivid details in your story. Remember the sample stories we read today about Bristles the dog! This assignment will be due on Wednesday. :)

II. Math
a. Mrs. Dela Cruz: Division of fractions worksheet. Draw picture and solve.
b. Mrs. Kaneshiro: no homework.

III. Social Studies
a. Colonial Economies: read the handout on the New England, Middle and Southern Colonies. Answer the questions. For question #7, I will share more information on this tomorrow.

IV. Other
a. Fire Safety Guide due Thursday. Sit down with your parent to discuss fire escape plan and have parent sign the form in the middle of the book.
b. Book orders: I will still accept orders tomorrow.
c. Wacky Hair/Hat day tomorrow.

I. Language Arts
a. Read 30 minutes and write pages down.
b. Reading: Electoral Votes Handout -- use The Kid Who Ran for President book and handout on McCain to answer the questions. Also, go online by typing or clicking on this link http://www.electoral-vote.com/ to find out which states are favoring Sen. Obama and which states are favoring Sen. John McCain. Total the electoral votes polled so far for each candidate. Color the map of the states -- blue for Sen. Obama and red for Sen. McCain. Then, based upon the poll, predict which candidate is most likely to become the next president.
c. Wordly Wise: 8E #8-15. Write words 8-15 5x each. Study for tomorrow's Spelling and Vocabulary exam.

II. Math
a. Mrs. Dela Cruz: 10-step problem.
b. Mrs. Kaneshiro: 1 problem.

III. Other
a. Yellow Grading Self-Assessment: grade yourself on the GLO's and each academic area for first quarter. Under the GLO for "evidence" write your reasons why you gave yourself that grade.

a. Mrs. Dela Cruz: 6 problems and study for fractions test. Test will be on multiplying fractions, multiplying whole number and fraction, multiplying mixed numbers. You also need to be able to draw and solve when you multiply fractions.
b. Mrs. Kaneshiro: 3 problems.

a. Progressfolio: Math
Complete all assessment sections. Mark evidence showing strengths and areas to improve on.

b. The Kid Who Ran for President: read Chapter 26 and complete questions #4-8. Do a fantastic job on the S-E-E problem.
c. Wordly Wise 8C & 8D. Write and describe words #8-15.

II. Math: Mrs. Dela Cruz's group--on folder paper, complete 5 questions and show all steps. The first 2 problems is draw and solve. The last 3 are multiplying whole numbers and fractions.
Mrs. Kaneshiro's group: Finish distance, rate and time estimation for 2nd Site Evacuation.

III. Other
a. Progressfolio: Finish Writing Self-Assessment for all sections. Mark evidence for strengths in writing (projects). Fill out accomplishments, work samples and "What I Want you to Notice."
Write Areas you need to improve on and Closing Statement. Put graded All About Me and Persuasive Essay in right side of yellow progressfolio folder.
b. 2nd Site Evacuation tomorrow. Wear covered shoes.

b. Wordly Wise #8A & 8B. Write and describe words 1-7.
c. The Kid Who Ran for President: read Chapter 25. Complete questions #1-3. #8 is for Chapter 26.

II. Math
a. Mrs. Dela Cruz: complete the following problems on folder paper. Show all steps and simplify. If the answer is an improper fraction (numerator larger than denominator) change it into a mixed number.
1) 1/3 x 3 1/2

2) 1/8 x 4 1/4

3) 3/8 x 1 1/4

4) 4/5 x 2 1/2

b. Mrs. Kaneshiro: 10-step process problem. Record fraction and 10-step quiz in your test folder. Have parents sign on the top of test and initial test folder. Return signed test folder tomorrow.

a. Progressfolio: Writing
Complete section I. Conventions and Skills: Wordly Wise Spelling Exams. Write your strengths, work samples and "I'd like you to notice" sections. Mark evidence. Tomorrow you will complete section II. Writing Projects.

Put Graded Persuasive Essay in the right side of your Writing Progressfolio (yellow) folder.

b. All students -- Field Trip (basketball game) tomorrow. Wear covered shoes and bring home lunch. :)

a. Reading Record: read daily and record pages read (including Saturday and Sunday). Total weekly total for week #2. Have parents initial total pages read and sign homework page.
b. Wordly Wise #7E #8-15. Write words 8-15 5x each. Study for Monday's spelling and vocabulary exam.
c. Progressfolio: complete Reading self-assessment. Put yellow post-its on areas you did well on. Put green post-its on areas you need to improve on.

II. Math
a. Mrs. Dela Cruz's group: make corrections to Monty's Chores 10-step. Multiplying Fraction worksheet: #2-12 (evens). Show all steps. Put answer in simplest form.
b. Mrs. Kaneshiro: page 391 #7-15 (odds).

a. Basketball field trip form and money due Monday.
b. Basketball players: you must wash you shirts for Monday's game. Bring home lunch and water.

a. Show parents communication folder: Camp Erdman forms and basketball field trip form for upcoming game on Tuesday 10/21 (this form is for the students who do not play on the basketball team so they can attend the game. Basketball team members already submitted their form and pymt.).
b. DARE: page 30, Lesson 5 due tomorrow. Bring in magazines that have either alcohol or tobacco advertisements in them.

*Field Trip tomorrow for Hokulani Basketball players only. You need to bring home lunch.

Welcome back! I hope you had a restful break and are ready to begin the Second Quarter. These are your assignments for tonight:

I. Language Arts
a. Read 30 minutes and record pages read. Starting this quarter, you will need to read a minimum of 30 minutes everyday (including Saturday and Sunday).
b. Wordly Wise #7A & B. In your composition book, write and describe using the format below for the first 1-6 words.
1. Term: colony
Describe: write the definition in your own words.
Example: give an example.
Draw: draw a picture showing your example.
c. Reading Test Chapters 21-24. On folder paper, make corrections to S.E.E. problem. Staple in back of test. Record grade in test folder and put reading test in folder.

II. Math
a. Mrs. Kaneshiro's group: Multiplication of Fractions worksheet #1-15.
b. Mrs. Dela Cruz's group: --10-Step Manny's Tower problem. Use your notes to solve problem.
--On folder paper, make corrections to Fraction Test.
Put test in test folder and record grade.

III. Other
a. DARE: page 30, Lesson #5. Bring in magazines that have Advertisements for alcohol and tobacco products. Due on Friday.
b. Progressfolio: type out Title page, Table of Contents and Reading, Math and Writing pages. Due on Thursday. (Follow the sample page)

Use the peer feedback and criteria sheet to make changes.
Make sure your thesis statement is underlined with 3 supporting reasons.
Use transitions as you introduce each reason in the middle paragraphs.

a. Mrs. Dela Cruz's group: 2 problems: write out each step and solve.
b. Mrs. Kaneshiro: Saduko problem and study for quiz.

III. Social Studies
a. Study for tomorrow's essay test. Essay questions #1-2.
