Homework Assignments

Dear Students,
Tomorrow, you will be taking the second HSA Reading Test. Please finish your yellow self-assessment sheet in writing. These are your assignments:

I. Language Arts
a. Read for 30 minutes and record pages read.
b. Kid Biz: read 3 news articles, record title and first score. The Kid Biz contest ends on April 10th.
c. Writing Self-Assessment: complete strengths in Spelling and share what you are most proud of in your writing. Mark evidence. Due tomorrow.

II. Math
a. Mrs. D.C.: 1) make corrections to changing linear units PW133 and perimeter PW127. 2) Complete changing linear units worksheet RW127 (all).
b. Mrs. K: finish "Take your Chances" (pink) worksheet. East Coast worksheet due Monday.

III. Other
a. Social Studies: complete last 2 events on the comic strip -- Boston Massacre and Boston Tea Party. Due tomorrow.
b. Japanese Quiz: study for next week's test on handout #1-5 meaning and Ro-maji.
c. Test folder: get it signed and return tomorrow.

You did a fantastic job on the first day of testing. I was really proud of your effort! You will be taking the HSA Reading test #1 tomorrow. For this test, you will have extended time. These are your assignments:

a. Read 30 minutes and record pages read.
b. Kid Biz: read 3 news articles and record title and first score.
c. Spam story: answer the questions and color S-E-E picture.

II. Math
a. Mrs. D.C.: complete the converting units and perimeter handout. Make sure your show your calculations (equations) used and label your answers.
b. Mrs. K: complete elimation worksheet and predict top 2 and the champion.

III. Social Studies
a. Finish last 2 events -- Boston Massacre and Boston Tea Party. Comic strip due Thursday.

IV. Other
a. Japanese: study for tomorrow's test on Hiragana Chart first letters.
b. Thank you letter. Explain why you are greatful to have these people in your life. (Due Monday to Aunty Lynne)

Dear Students,
Tomorrow is the big day -- you will begin taking the HSA test in reading and math. After you finish today's homework, get a good night's sleep. Come to school on time and eat a good breakfast in the morning. These are your assignments:

I. Language Arts
a. Read book for 30 minutes and record pages read. Next genre is Science fiction.
b. Kid Biz: read 3 news articles, record title and first score on Kid Biz sheet and class poster.
c. Ellison Onizuka story: finish reading questions and color your S-E-E answer.

II. Math
a. Mrs. D.C. and Mrs. K: finish measurement handout using ruler and thermometer.

III. Social Studies
a. Read textbook Chapter 7 Lesson #3 and USA Weekly on the Boston Massacre and Boston Tea Party. Write and draw these 2 events on comic strip. Completed comic strip due this Thursday.

IV. Other
a. Thank you letter: write a letter thanking special people in your life. Explain the reasons why. (You will give this letter to Aunty Lynne on Monday). Also, if you would like to try out to be a speaker, write on another sheet a little about yourself and your memories at Hokulani school.

Read aloud the favorite parts of your fantasy book to your parents over the weekend for your Literature sharing. Have a fantastic Kuhio Day holiday! These are your weekend assignments:

c. Reading: complete questions for "Sticky, Sticky Pine" story. For the S-E-E question, draw a colored picture for your response.
d. Literature sharing: read aloud favorite parts of your fantasy book to a parent. Have parent complete bottom of page 36. Due Monday.

II. Math
a. Mrs. D.C.: complete worksheet on customary and metric systems.

It was wonderful seeing everyone today! Isn't it great to be back in school? Tonight, study for your Japanese test, finish writing the first draft of your yearbook page and complete pages 34-36 of your Literature Sharing folder. These are your assignments:

a. Reading record: read fantasy book for 30 minutes and record pages read.
b. Kid Biz: read 3 news articles and record title of article and first score.
c. Literature sharing: complete pages 34-36 (top of 36) due tomorrow. You will read aloud favorite parts of your fantasy book to your parents on the weekend.

II. Math
a. Mrs. D.C.: make corrections to study guide.
b. Mrs. K: textbook page 530 #20-25, 30, 33, 36, 40, 42, 44, 48, 50.
Get test signed and return on Thursday.

III. Other
a. Social Studies: re-read Chapter 7 Lesson #1 and USA Weekly newspaper on French and Indian War and Quartering Act. Explain these 2 events in your comic strip, complete all questions and draw colored picture showing the event. Due Thursday.

Wow! I could tell you put alot of effort in creating your Historic Site buildings. Rehearse your information tonight. Tomorrow morning, you will be sharing your oral presentations in front of the fourth graders. East Coast students, one more day before our trip! These are your assignments:

I. Language Arts
a. Read 30 Realist fiction book for 30 minutes and record pages read. Library tomorrow. Bring your books.
b. Kid Biz: read 3 news articles and record the title and complete 5 steps. Record the first score.
c. Writing: read over the bills that are still alive on the handout I gave you. Then, revise the 2 legislator letters by revising the bill numbers and the information about the bill. Share if you favor or oppose the bills. Typed letters due tomorrow.

II. Math
a. Mrs. Dela Cruz: workbook page 122 #1-23 (all).
b. Mrs. K: textbook page 523-524 #1-29 (odds) and workbook page 125 (all).

III. Social Studies
a. Rehearse for tomorrow's oral presentation.

Dear Parents and Students,
Thank you for making yesterday's Spring Fling a huge s-u-c-c-e-s-s! We appreciate all of the hard work you did while working the games, helping customers in the hair salon, locker and beverage booths. I hope you had fun too!
Over the weekend, work on reading Kid Biz news articles and rehearsing for Monday's Historic Site presentations. If you took your models home, make sure you bring it back on Monday. These are your assignments:

I. Language Arts
a. Reading record: read fantasy book for 30 minutes and record pages read. Have parents initial total pages for week #11 and sign homework week #9.
b. Kid Biz: read 3 news articles, students attending the East Coast trip need to read 6 news articles. You should have a total of 31 entries, East Coast students need 34 entries.

II. Math
No Homework! *Mrs. Kaneshiro's math group, she will give you time next week to complete tessellations project.

III. Social Studies
a. Historic Site Project: name plate, building and oral presentations begin on Monday.

a. Read Fantasy book for 30 minutes and record pages read.

c. Writing: write first draft of the letter to your legislator. Follow the sample format given. It should be 3 paragraphs long.

II. Math
No homework! :)

III. Social Studies
a. Finish name plate, building and oral presentation. Presentations with building begins on Monday.

IV. Other
a. Behavior contract for Ice Palace due tomorrow: Cody, Waileia, Riley Parks, Tawnie and Katie.

Homework Assignments

Dear Students,
For writing, don't forget to ask your parents who your legislators are for the area you live in. Show your parents pages 33 and 37 in "The Legislative Process" book. These are your assignments:

I. Language Arts
a. Read fantasy book for 30 minutes and record pages read.
b. Kid Biz: read 3 news articles and record title and first score. Do your best!
c. Writing: 1) find out who your state senator and state representatives are. 2) Fire works ban: read and take notes on the fireworks article. Write down the bills that are still alive. Decide which bills you are in favor of or against.
3) Furlough Fridays -- use the sheet I gave you today. These are 2 more bills being considered: SB2436 -- take money from the state's hurricane fund to reduce furlough days and SB2437 -- increase the general excise tax 1% to reduce furlough days. Read each bill. Decide which ones you are in favor of or against. We will use this information to write your letter tomorrow.

II. Math
a. Mrs. Dela Cruz: Tsunami 10-Step problem -- make corrections and finish steps #6-10.
b. Mrs. K: a) create math problem b) tesellation project due Monday.

III. Social Studies
a. Historic Site project: type name plate, finish building and rehearse oral presentation.

a. Japanese: Study for Quiz #23 on Vending Machine, meaning and Romaji.

Homework Assignments

Dear Students,
Work on your Social Studies Historic Project. Type a name plate, finish creating your building and prepare for your oral presentation. On Monday, you will be sharing your oral presentation with your building in front of the fifth graders. On Tuesday, you will be sharing in front of fourth graders. Don't forget to read 3 Kid Biz news articles. The contest begins today! These are your assignments:

I. Language Arts
a. Reading record: read a fantasy book for 30 minutes and record pages read. We will be going to the library tomorrow.
b. Kid Biz: read 3 news articles relating to tsunamis and earthquakes. Record title and first score. For the contest, when you receive a score of 88% = 3 points and 75% = 2 points for our class.
c. Reading Text Structures: read the Tsunami handout and complete the flow chart that shows how tsunami waves are made. Label the information -- either cause or effect. Draw colored pictures showing each step.

II. Math
a. Mrs. Dela Cruz: 1) make corrections to math test and get test folder signed.
2) Finish first 5 steps of Tsunami 10-step problem.
b. Mrs. K: textbook page 473 #1-9, tessellations due March 8th.

III. Social Studies
a. Historic Site project: 1) type and make a name plate for the building 2) work on constructing the building 3) practice for your oral presentation. Building and Oral presentation due next week Monday March 8th.
