Your Winter Break assignments are:
I. Language Arts
a. Read daily for 30 minutes. The genre is "free choice." You can also read a newspaper or magazine. Log pages down and have parents sign total pages read for the next 3 weeks.
b. Kid Biz: read 3 news articles per week. Complete 5 steps and record scores in Kid Biz paper. I hope some of you take the Kid Biz challenge (December 22-January 2nd). There will be 1 winner per state. Students needs to complete the most news articles and receive a score above 60%.

II. Other
a. DARE: finish drawing and coloring poster. Poster needs to promote positive, healthy living and staying drug free. The words "DARE" needs to be included in the poster.
*Poster due on the day you return from Winter Recess -- Tuesday January 13th.
c. Communication folder: show parents and return folder.

Dear Students,
What a fun day! I enjoyed watching you open your presents this morning. And, you finally found out who your secret santa was. :) Thank you for working hard this quarter. I can't wait for the Winter Concert. Remember to wear shorts or pants (jeans) tomorrow and to show your parents the communication folder.

Your only homework during the Winter Break will be the following:
I. Language Arts
a. Read a minimum of 30 minutes daily. This is "free choice" reading. Your choice of genre for book reading, magazine or newspaper. Record pages read in your reading record (yellow sheets). Also, remember to record the pages read for this week.
b. Kid Biz: read a minimum of 3 news articles per week. Record it on your Kid Biz paper. You can put that sheet in your Reading record to make record keeping easier. I hope some of you participate in the "Kid Biz" contest in completing the most news articles with a score above 60%. It begins on December 22 and runs until January 2nd. I put the informational flyer in today's communication folder.

II. DARE
a. Finish drawing and coloring your poster. It will be due the day you return from Winter Break -- Tuesday January 13, 2009.

III. Other
a. Test Folder: please have your test folder signed tonight -- Kevin, Joseph, Taiana and Vincent.

Dear Students,
Just 2 more days before Winter Recess! Tomorrow, we will have our final Winter Concert rehearsal for the fifth graders. After your song, you will be going to the back of the stage. At the end of the first performance, you will sing the "Hano Hano Hokulani song."

At the end of the second performance, you will sing "Let It Snow" and "Hano Hano Hokulani Song." You will be opening your secret santa gift after recess and will have the pizza party after that. Remember to bring your own drink for tomorrow.

Also, don't forget to read aloud to your parents tonight and complete pages 26-28 in your Literature Sharing folder. Have your parents sign your test folder. These are your assignments for today:

I. Language Arts
a. Read 30 minutes and record pages read.
b. Literature Sharing Folder: complete pages 26-28 and read aloud to parents. You will complete top half of page 28 and parent will complete bottom half. Due tomorrow.
c. Poetry: if you did not submit 1 of your poems to Kid Biz, please type it and send it tonight.

a. Mrs. Dela Cruz: make corrections to today's homework page (#2-16 evens). I will return your Math test tomorrow. :)

Dear Students,
Practice singing the 12-Days of Christmas tonight. We have a school dress rehearsal tomorrow morning. You will need to change into your colored t-shirt before the rehearsal. Also, if you did not share your myth or legend book with your parents do so tonight. Complete pages 26-28 in your Literature Sharing folder. These are your assignments for today:

I. Language Arts
a. Read 30 minutes and record the amount of pages read.
b. Literature Sharing folder: complete pages 26-28 and read aloud to your parents. You will complete the top portion of page 28 and have parents complete the bottom portion of the page. Due this Thursday.
c. Poetry: type your 2 poems. In the upper right hand corner, write your name, student number and due date. Make sure your 2 poems have titles. Due Wednesday.
Copy one of the poems from microsoft word document and paste in Kid Biz contest page. Submit to Kid Biz.

II. Math
a. Mrs. Dela Cruz: make corrections to multiplication of decimals study guide on folder paper. Complete the back side of multiplication handout. Complete #2-16 (evens). Show all work. Study for tomorrow's multiplication of decimals test.
b. Mrs. K.S. Study for soccer tomorrow -- multiplying and dividing decimals.

III. Other
a. Pizza Party on Thursday. Remember to bring your own drink.

Dear Students,

If you have not brought in your secret santa gift, the deadline is tomorrow. Make sure the gift is wrapped and has a gift tag. Please address the gift tag with the name of the student that is assigned to you. Address the "from" line with Secret Santa.

Tonight, fill out Literature Sharing pages 26-28. Read aloud favorite parts of one of the books you have read to a parent. The completed Literature folder is due this Thursday.

Also, please keep up with your assignments. Any incomplete assignments will be completed during our Christmas party on Thursday. And remember, only F-O-U-R more days until Winter Recess! :)

One week before Winter Recess! Don't forget to shop and wrap your secret santa gift this weekend. Bring it to school by or before Tuesday. These are your assignments:
I. Language Arts
a. Read 30 minutes and record pages read. Have parents sign week #10 for total pages read and homework page.
b. Wordly Wise 13E #1-7. Write words 1-7 5x each. Test on Tuesday.
c. Kid Biz: read today's news article and record scores.
d. Poetry: write first draft of 2 poems about this topic: What the Holiday (Christmas) means to me. You can choose the type of poem you would like to write. Criteria: minimum 6 lines, poem does not have to rhyme. Brainstorm your ideas on the topic. Use your 5 senses: See, Hear, Taste, Touch and Feel. Then, write poems. Due Monday.

II. Other
a. DARE Essay: typed DARE essay with cover page is due on Monday only for the following students: Kelind, Vincent, Joseph, Taiana, Tony and Isaiah. Everyone else should have turned in their final typed essay today.
b. Wrapped Secret Santa Gift: Due Tuesday. Address the gift tag to your assigned person. On the "from" line, write Secret Santa.
