b. Kid Biz: read 3 news articles per week. Complete 5 steps and record scores in Kid Biz paper. I hope some of you take the Kid Biz challenge (December 22-January 2nd). There will be 1 winner per state. Students needs to complete the most news articles and receive a score above 60%.
II. Other
a. DARE: finish drawing and coloring poster. Poster needs to promote positive, healthy living and staying drug free. The words "DARE" needs to be included in the poster.

What a fun day! I enjoyed watching you open your presents this morning. And, you finally found out who your secret santa was. :) Thank you for working hard this quarter. I can't wait for the Winter Concert. Remember to wear shorts or pants (jeans) tomorrow and to show your parents the communication folder.
Your only homework during the Winter Break will be the following:
I. Language Arts
a. Read a minimum of 30 minutes daily. This is "free choice" reading. Your choice of genre for book reading, magazine or newspaper. Record pages read in your reading record (yellow sheets). Also, remember to record the pages read for this week.

Dear Students,
Just 2 more days before Winter Recess! Tomorrow, we will have our final Winter Concert rehearsal for the fifth graders. After your song, you will be going to the back of the stage. At the end of the first performance, you will sing the "Hano Hano Hokulani song."
At the end of the second performance, you will sing "Let It Snow" and "Hano Hano Hokulani Song." You will be opening your secret santa gift after recess and will have the pizza party after that. Remember to bring your own drink for tomorrow.
Also, don't forget to read aloud to your parents tonight and complete pages 26-28 in your Literature Sharing folder. Have your parents sign your test folder. These are your assignments for today:

If you have not brought in your secret santa gift, the deadline is tomorrow. Make sure the gift is wrapped and has a gift tag. Please address the gift tag with the name of the student that is assigned to you. Address the "from" line with Secret Santa.
Tonight, fill out Literature Sharing pages 26-28. Read aloud favorite parts of one of the books you have read to a parent. The completed Literature folder is due this Thursday.

Thank you for participating in the re-dedication ceremony of our Peace Garden. If you did not have your Secret Santa and Christmas party letter signed by your parents, please do so tonight. We are picking names tomorrow. Don't forget to bring in Christmas wrapping paper and one gift tag label. We will be wrapping your desk tops this week. These are your assignments for today.
I. Language Arts
a. Reading Record: read 30 minutes and write pages down. You should be reading a myth or legend book.
b. Reading: complete Step #2 writing your S-E-E response on the Explicit and Implied Handout.
II. Math
a. Mrs. Dela Cruz: homework corrections, textbook page 43 #3-7 (odd), page 44 #13-23 (odd).
b. Mrs. Kaneshiro: page 50 problem #40 solve as a 10-step problem. Page 50 #26-30 (all).
III. Social Studies

b. Reading: Explicit and Implied worksheet -- complete worksheet for step #1 by writing down 3 explicit and 3 implied things you learned from the story "The Present."
c. Wordly Wise 11E #8-15. Write words 8-15 5x each. Study for tomorrow's spelling and vocabulary test.
d. Kid Biz: read today's news article. Complete 5 steps and record results in your folder.
II. Math
a. Mrs. Dela Cruz's group:
--On folder paper, complete page 50 #36-38 (write rule and find missing numbers), page 59 #3-8 (all).
--Make test correction to Decimal Retest, record grade in test folder, get test folder signed.
