Homework Assignments

Dear Students,
I hope you were able to watch the first Presidential debate. We will be discussing the debate on Monday and will take another class poll on who you think is the best candidate. You can leave me your comments about the debate on my blog -- who do you think answered the questions effectively? Share your reasons why. On Thursday, there will be a debate between the candidates for Vice-President.
On another note, I really appreciated all of the time you spent into studying for your Science exam and finishing your Math retest and Reading benchmark tracker. We have only one more week before the break. Continue to work hard and always try your very best. These are the assignments for the weekend:

I. Language Arts
a. Read 30 minutes and total pages read. Have parents initial pages read and sign on homework page for week #9.
b. Literature Sharing Folder: complete pages 17-19. On page 19, finish writing what you learned on top half of page. You can either complete your literature sharing with a parent this weekend or during the break.
c. The Kid Who Ran for President: complete reading questions for chapters 23 & 24. Test on Chapters 21-24 this Monday.

II. Math
a. Fraction worksheet: write down steps and show work.

III. Other
a. Show parents communication folder.
b. DARE: homework due Monday.

a. Read 30 minutes and finish reading Biography book. Complete pages 17-19 in Literature Sharing folder. For page 19 (Write down what you learned from the story. Completed pages due next week Monday.)
b. Wordly Wise 6C & 6D. Write sentences for words 8-15. Underline the vocabulary word.

II. Math
a. Addition and Subtraction Fraction worksheet -- Show all work on folder paper. Write answer on worksheet.

III. Social Studies
a. Read handout (Settlers Find Mix of Welcome and Warfare and Indians vs. Colonists) and textbook pages 81-83, 88-89. Complete Study Guide -- 2 essay questions.
First essay question -- Compare and share some of the differences between how the Europeans and Native Americans viewed and used the land. Draw conclusions on how these differences impacted them.
Second essay question -- Europeans and Indians had different views on religion and ways of living. Share some of these differences. Explain how these differences impacted their encounter.

IV. Science
a. Study for tomorrow's test on Light. Use your study guide.

V. Other
a. Dare: pages 18-29, situation 1-6 and page 29 Lesson 4 will be due next week Monday.
b. Japanese worksheet due next week Tuesday.

b. Revise Little Mole Response: use the information I gave you today and revise your response on folder paper to the Little Mole question. Make sure you find 2 investigative skills the little mole used in your stance and 2 specific evidence from the story. Underline each part like you did in assignment 1.

a. Simplest Form handout. For questions #1-6 write "yes" if it is an equivalent fraction or "no" if it isn't. If it is not in simplest form, also write down the fraction in simplest form. (Show work).
b. For #7-18, write the fraction in simplest form and show all work. Write what you divided the numerator and denominator by. Remember to use the GCF greatest common factor.

a. Show parents test folder for signature. Return signed folders tomorrow.

a. On folder paper, if I have 1 more strip of orange paper, write the directions on how to fold and cut it so it will be the next fraction strip in the pattern. Explain your answer. (You can also use drawings to help explain your written answer).

III. Science
a. In your composition book, define the vocabulary terms, draw a picture and explain what the picture shows for: ray, beam and reflect.
b. Answer the following question: Judging from the results of today's lesson, is there a relationship between the angle at which light hits a mirror and the angle at which light is reflected by the mirror? Expain your answer.

IV. Social Studies
a. We will continue Power Point presentations tomorrow. If your group did not make your presentation yet, please practice for your oral presentation.

V. DARE
a. Page 30, Lesson 3 due Friday.

VI. Art
a. Color Wheel due Friday. Make a pattern. Trace it on each color, tint and shade. Label color on back. Glue colors on black construction paper and label each color with white crayon.

a. Are You a Square? Calculate all boys heights (if you are a boy) or all girls heights (if you are a girl) in inches. Height in cm divided by 2.5 = height in inches. Show your work.
b. Make a stem and leaf plot with your results. Stem = tens digit, leaf = ones digit. Remember to use labels and make a title.

III. Social Studies
a. Finish Explorer power point. Due Tuesday September 9th.

IV. Other
a. Show parents communication folder.
b. Turn in parent-teacher conference forms and
picture taking order and funds.

a. Read your biography book for 30 minutes and write the amount of pages you have read.

II. Math
a. Recheck your work for mean, median and mode. Make sure your bar graph showing the body shape is labelled. You will continue to work on your excel chart tomorrow.

III. Science
a. Read pages 556-561 in Science textbook. Make a web and write down what you know about Light. Then, make a 3 column chart. Write the defintions for each of the following terms. Draw a colored picture of an example and write an explanation for your example:
Reflection, Opaque, Translucent, Transparent, Refraction and Absorption.

IV. Other
a. DARE assignment: page 10 "My Warning", page 11 situation 1 & 2, page 28 Lesson #2. Due Thursday.
b. Federal Survey Card: have parents complete it in pen and sign their name. Completed cards due tomorrow!
